The Chariot is that moment when you find yourself in the driver’s seat of a thing you previously thought was happening TO you. I couldn’t find a Steely Dan lyric that suited this card because in the universe of The Dan, everything is happening TO the protagonist. And what’s happening is mostly rejection and loss. Thank goodness for the Mothers of Invention weighing in at mild-sense-of-agency with these lines from “Trouble Every Day” (Freak Out, 1966).
